The Beginning

Discover a pictorial display that provides an overview of Moffett Field’s earliest days.

Electronic Warfare

Moffett Field’s role in America's defense extended into the modern era, as illustrated by this display (sponsored by the Association of Old Crows).

NASA

Through its Ames Research Center, NASA is the custodian of Moffett Field. Its history dates back to 1939, when the NACA acquired 62 acres from the Army. Items from NASA’s experimental flight testing, wind tunnel experiments, and space flight simulation are on display.
If you are interested in history—especially the history of the San Francisco Bay Area and its important role in aviation history and national defense—the Moffett Field Historical Society Museum, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, will fascinate, educate, and capture your imagination. Exhibits are organized by significant eras of history, starting with the early 1930s. Learn more about our other exhibits, or come for a visit!

OUR mission

To acquire and display artifacts that illustrate the roles performed by and tell the stories of the various military and NASA commands assigned to, or operating out of, Moffett Field, and thereby to educate the public about, and preserve for future generations, the airfield's rich and important heritage.

Hours

We are open Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 3pm.

Security
To maintain base security, all adults are asked to show a photo ID when entering the Moffett gates. U.S. residents may use a  driver's license or state ID card. International visitors must show a  passport.
