Stem Month Activities
We will be hosting a series of events and special displays, all focused on STEM. Children of all ages are welcome to attend.

The museum is committed to supporting STEM subjects and careers. We will be hosting weekday activities as well on the weekend.  Check the adjacent schedule for times and dates of each activity.

Special activities include:
  • View a Moon Rock: Yes, Americans have walked on the moon. Courtesy of NASA, we have a lunar sample on display that was brought back on the Apollo 15 mission.
  • Fly A Drone: The USS Macon was a flying aircraft carrier that launched and recovered up to five Sparrowhawk Bi-Planes on its missions. This is your chance to fly a mini drone to perform a simulated trapeze recovery and earn a souvenir Sparrowhawk Pilot Certificate.
  • Robot Building Demo: Watch robot and electronic gadget making in action and ask your questions. We will demonstrate some of the techniques that will be taught in our upcoming STEM classes including coding, 3D printing, soldering and putting it all together..
  • View a working NASA model of a 5-Degree of motion stimulator that was used to train astronauts during the space race
  • Many hands-on demonstrations including robotics, rocketry, and electronic testing
  • For younger children, the museum will be offering coloring activities, paper airplane folding, and a chance to operate a toy train
  • The Train Room, consisting of three levels, and seven story spirals, will be open for extended hours
  • Celebrate the 90th anniversary of Moffett Field as a Naval Air Station! Special activities to commemorate the occasion will take place on April 12.
  • Surviving and Fighting Under The Oceans (Presentation): A group of US Navy submarine veterans will make a presentation and answer your questions about the engineering and survival challenges of operating a warship below the surface of the oceans.
